Help, Information and Fostering Resources

Following lots of questions from readers about various topics covered in my books, here’s a range of helplines and websites for when the going gets tough. As ever, if you can suggest others that you’ve found particularly good, I’m always keen to add to the list….

Anyone wishing to find out more about Fostering in their own area would need to phone the local council offices and ask to be put through to the Fostering and Adoption section. For more general queries and information, a great website is and the phone number is 020-7620-6400. This network also provides support to existing Foster Carers and can provide an advocacy service if required.

Useful numbers for children and young people either in care or in danger: – Site aimed at children and young people with advice on staying safe online, online games, chatrooms, email and mobile phones – Clic is the national information and advice service for young people in Wales aged 11-25 – An interactive site with resources for young people with depression using self help ideas and relaxation techniques – If you have concerns and fears relating to your parents’ divorce click on ‘Child Aid’ button at top of home page and then go to the Child or Teenager section as appropriate. – Has a teens section dealing with issues like body image, sexual health, drugs, alcohol etc – Site giving young people information and advice on personal and internet safety, domestic violence etc

Private community for teenagers who feel they are having a tough life and a safe space to seek help and support. – Shelter also provides information and advice to young people – Website specifically aimed at 16-25 year olds
